Spencer Wilks 1891-1971. In 1931 he became Managing Director of the Rover Company and Chairman in 1957. He retired in 1962 but remained as a Director until 1967. Spencer and his brother Maurice Wilks together built Rover's reputation for quality cars and came up with the concept of the 'Land Rover'.
